Holiday Player Appreciation Game:
Saturday, December 3rd, 12 tables of our most frequent players. With more than 220 different people playing at the Scripps Ranch Community Center in 2011, these 12 tables deserved a party at the end of the year! The "2011 Anne Finnegan Most Valuable Player Award" went to Steve and Mary Boll - congratulations!. Photos along with results are found here.
Susan G Komen Fundraiser 2:
Saturday, September 3rd, 18 tables of generous San Diego County duplicate bridge players helped to raise more than $2,400 at the Esplanade Bridge Center in Solana Beach. The catered event drew a great crowd, and a few months later your "regular Director" walked 60 miles in November to help find a cure for cancer. Many, many thanks to all those who donated and played in this event. Scores and results are right here.
Susan G Komen Fundraiser 1:
Saturday, August 20th, we held a special game to help raise funds for the Susan G Komen 3-Day For The Cure. 9 tables of "regulars" from the Scripps Ranch Community Center came by to have dinner and play cards - and support a great cause. Many thanks to these supporters that helped to raise more than $1,100.
Worldwide Pairs
Once a year, the good folks at ECATS in England hold a Worldwide Pairs event. . .where you're competing board-for-board against people all over the world at the same time! In 2011, we had the absolute maximum of 14 tables we could squeeze into the Community Center, and here were the results along with hand records and analysis by Eric Kokesh, world bridge champion.
The interesting thing about this game is because you're scored board-by-board (instead of percentages), your percentage changes from the club game when compared to the rest of the world! In 2010, John Evans and Steve Rattner came in 1st in our group, but Ayoub Jaraicie and Howard Katz had a better percentage worldwide. In 2011, it was Joyce Kish and Rita Sorgi that came in 1st locally - but that didn't stand worldwide as Jim Checco and Allan Larson came in with a better worldwide percentage.
